Cast iron floating hatch

Function: 

Supporting and covering element of the manhole is the upper part of the manhole top that provides access to channels with underground lines of household and industrial sewage and water supply systems. Recommended for use on town highways with heavy traffic of all types of road vehicles.

Design: 

Locking of cover in the closed position is provided by a hinge and 2 spring catches, cast together with the cover. The cover is levered up with a crowbar inserted into a special hole cast in the element. The angle of full opening of the cover is not less than 100°. When force is applied to close the cover, it locks automatically. To close the cover from the locked open position, lift it up to release it in the hinge, then move it to the horizontal position and press the cover with a foot till a distinctive click.

To reduce shock loads on the supporting and covering element of the manhole (to prevent any metal/metal contact between the frame and the cover) and avoid flooding of wells with surface waters, a profiled resilient seal dovetail type is provided circumferentially between the cover and the frame; it is fastened along the inner perimeter of the inset rim.

Designation of utility systems for which the element is intended is cast on the outer surface of the cover: water supply – W (В); fire hydrant – FH (ПГ); household sewage – S (К).

Installation:

The design of the supporting and covering element of the manhole provides for its installation on the asphalt pavement of the road, and not on the concrete shaft ring. Thus, the element floats together with the roadbed and ensures the absence of protrusions and subsidence.
